Inspect the Condition of Your Roof:

Looking for leaks in your roof can save you lots of pain and money. Ease your worries by ensuring that your roof is in top-notch condition. Otherwise, come springtime, the melting snow may cause pesky leaks. Contact a professional to inspect your roof if you aren’t sure where to look. In addition, if you think that there is an issue with your roof, it’s best to have it looked at before it’s too late!

Prune Your Trees & Shrubs:

Pruning trees and shrubs is an overlooked task that can prevent some serious damage to your home. Additionally, it can help promote new growth and overall health of the plant come spring.  Heavy snowfall and wind can result in branches snapping or falling off. This is especially dangerous for homes with tree branches hanging over the house. Branches can easily damage windows, walls, and roofing if you aren’t careful. So make like Edward Scissor Hands and whip out the shears while you still can!

Do a Gutter Clean Before Winter:

Winter in the Northern Interior of British Columbia often comes with a lot of snow. And, a lot of snow means a lot of water. For those who neglect to clean their gutters, this is bad news. Clogged gutters can prevent drainage which can cause a leaky roof and/or household flooding. It is crucial that you remove debris from the gutter this fall to ensure you stay leak-free during winter and spring!

Besides purchasing the house, moving is usually the next biggest cost of relocating. Many people have a strict budget to follow during their move. Follow along below to learn more about saving money while you are moving!

Moving to Houses for Sale in Vanderhoof on a Budget.

  1. Do Your Own Packing.

One of the easiest ways to cut back on moving expenses is to do your own packing. Even if you need help packing the big stuff, it is essential to do what you can on your own. This will help bring down costs significantly. Especially if your movers are being paid by the hour. Furthermore, it will reduce the likelihood of things being broken, misplaced, or stolen.

  1. Avoid Purchasing Packing Materials.

Secondly, if you want to minimize costs, try to avoid purchasing packing materials. This means no expensive moving boxes, bubble wrap, blankets, or packing paper. Instead, visit your local department store or grocery store and take old boxes out of the recycling. Or, use any duffle bags, backpacks, and suitcases you have on hand to pack away your things. This way, you are packing with items that need to be packed anyways. Moreover, you can use a blanket and newspaper to wrap up fragile goods. The fewer items you need to purchase, the better. And, you can rest easy in knowing that you are using eco-friendly packing options.

  1. Sell What You Don’t Need.

Having a garage sale or donating your items to those in need can be a great way to cut back on moving costs. By selling items you are both reducing the number of things you need to bring with you, and profiting off of your belongings. This money can be put towards other moving costs such as renting a truck or paying for food while you travel. If you aren’t interested in a garage sale, you can put ads on Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji, or your local classifieds website. In addition, you can take unwanted items to your local thrift store or consignment store.

Deciding on a Property in Vanderhoof

Buying a property in Vanderhoof is a big step and an even bigger purchase. This is why you will want to make sure you are making the right choice. Finding the perfect home might not happen right away. This is why it is important to make note of your needs and wants for a home. There are a few tips and tricks that you can use to determine if a property is right for you. Follow along below to learn more about deciding on a property in Vanderhoof!

So you think you’ve found your dream property in Vanderhoof?

When determining if a home is right for you, you must remember what your needs are. This could include the number of bedrooms, location, price range, and so much more. If the house fails to meet most of your needs, then it’s probably not the right property. Another thing to consider is how the value of the property will fair over time. A beautiful home that is next to a busy highway is unlikely to have substantial growth in value and may be hard to sell in the future. In addition, it is important to pay attention to future plans in the area that may affect the property. For example, a shopping center or new school could add value. Whereas, a new landfill site could depreciate the value of the home.

Furthermore, you will want to be realistic about the home. If the property you want is one you can’t afford you will need to adjust accordingly. For first-time home buyers and new buyers, getting your dream home isn’t always possible. While it is important that you’ll be happy in the home you choose, it also needs to suit your budget.

Moving Day Checklist for Homes for Sale in Vanderhoof!

vanderhoof homes for sale northern bc

Moving day is one of the most stressful days during the process of buying a home. If you are looking to move to Vanderhoof homes for sale, we’ve created a list of things to tick off on the day of the move. Having a checklist can help you stay organized and prevent any forgotten items.

Follow along below to get some inspiration on what to add to your moving day checklist!

What to Prepare When Moving to Homes for Sale in Vanderhoof?

On the day of the move, you will want to ensure that all of your belongings are accounted for. This means packing any loose items like cutlery, toiletries, and any food left in your kitchen. If you are traveling a long distance, make sure that perishable items are stored in coolers or thrown out. You will also need to make sure that any artwork or pictures have been removed from the walls.

Before you put away everything, you may find it necessary to make an essentials box. Inside of your essentials box, you can include things such as a change of clothes, soap, snacks, phone charger, cleaning supplies, tools, paper plates, utensils, etc. This way, you won’t need to dig through every box to find your basic necessities.

While you are packing up the last few items make sure that you label each box with its new location. For instance, label boxes with utensils and cutlery “kitchen stuff”. This will make it easy to determine where to put the boxes once you arrive at your new home.

Once you think you’ve gotten everything, go through your home once more and check every drawer, closet, and storage area for any forgotten items. You should also take a peek at your appliances to make sure nothing has been left inside of them.

When you’re sure nothing has been left behind, your can start to prepare to leave the home. This means shutting off the water, turning off lights, handing in your house keys, turning off the air conditioner, etc.

Vanderhoof Homes For Sale Moving Checklist

vanderhoof homes for sale

Moving is a turbulent time. Switching your home base can cause many things to go amiss. This is why we have created a pre-moving checklist. Having a checklist before you move, prevents you from forgetting the little things (or, the big things). Follow along below to learn about some of the items on our moving to Vanderhoof homes for sale checklist!

Moving to Vanderhoof Homes for Sale Checklist:

One of the first things we’d recommend you do is to invest in a moving binder. Having all of your moving documents in one place is going to help you save lots of time and stress. Alternatively, you can organize your documents into a digital folder, if that is easier for you.

The second thing we would recommend is to determine the cost of moving out. Getting your stuff from one place to another can be expensive. It is crucial that you know how much the total cost will be. Even if you decide to move without the help of movers, the process won’t be free. Do you need to rent a truck? How much is gas going to cost? What are you going to eat on moving day? There is a lot to consider before you pack up your belongings.

Next, you’ll want to forward your mail to your new home address. After this step is complete, consider asking a friend, family member, or neighbour to send your mail to you until the address gets changed. You will also need to notify others about your change in address. For example, employers, government institutions, clubs/memberships, etc.

Furthermore, you will need to transfer your utilities to your new home. If you are living in a rented property, you should schedule a time to meet with your landlord in advance of the move.

These are just a few things to add to your moving checklist before you move to Vanderhoof homes for sale. For more information on moving to Vanderhoof homes for sale, contact us today. We’d be happy to help you with your moving checklist! Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns about Vanderhoof homes for sale. We look forward to working with you in the near future!
